PROJECT DESCRIPTION
In her old house, Robin could stand in the kitchen and watch someone brush their teeth in the bathroom, another person eat breakfast and see someone else watching TV in the living room. “We like to be together but not sitting on top of each other,” she says. “As you can imagine, we all needed a little space.”
And space is what they got. They added almost 2,000 more square feet to their house creating the space, function, and flow the family craved. They kept the same width on their home and expanded up and out with a complete tear down and rebuild. “Renovation Design has changed my life,” she says. “The house they designed just for me helps me and my family live life better.”
Robin and her family have a casual lifestyle and they wanted their house to suit them. The large contemporary-style great room and kitchen gives the family a place to comfortably gather on the main level. With all the bedrooms upstairs, the kids have a place to escape to when they want privacy but Mom is still close at night if they need her.
While the great room lends itself to close knit together time, their new mudroom/laundry room is probably the most life altering addition for the family. “Before we had the laundry in the basement,” Robin says. “I would often just forget about it.”
Now, the laundry/mudroom is directly off the entryway. Even though this room is usually hidden behind closed pocket doors, it is one of the family’s favorite rooms in the house. This long room not only houses the laundry but also a computer as well as cubbies and coat hangers for the kids. The family traffic usually enters the house through this room’s side door. They kick off their shoes here; immediately offering the “stay awhile” kind of mood.
With the laundry room off the kitchen, Robin says she seems to get more done. “I can be more efficient as a mommy,” she says. “I can be baking banana bread and doing something on the computer. Things get done because my house is more efficiently laid out and it matches my needs.”
To the right of the front door is as formal as the remodeled space gets. It is a music room with the same pocket doors for privacy. This room is set up like a library/music room for a quiet place for her girls to practice the piano and violin.
During the remodeling, the family updated their outdoor living space as well making more doors leading outside to two newly remodeled patios. They have three doors that lead to the backyard and now her kids practically live outside. “Now we make the most of our outdoor living space,” she says.
Robin and her family endured a hard year waiting for their dream house. Living with displaced kids and dealing with everything that goes into a remodel can be stressful. But Robin says it was all worth it. She now has a house that fits her in a neighborhood that makes her family happy.
There are so many things Robin and her family wanted in their home and Renovation Design Group made it come together. “I love my house,” she says. “I got everything I wanted; everything I envisioned. It is amazing how Renovation really makes it happen the way you want. I can say they have really changed my life.”
