A few years ago, we worked with this same client to remodel their downtown condo. The project turned out great, but once the client moved back to Utah full-time they wanted a little more space than the condo had. They found this ranch style home for sale that gave them this additional space and decided to do a renovation that brings in many of the same details that they loved from their condo. Our main goals for this project included updating the curb-appeal, opening up the living room, dining room, and kitchen to create a great room, increasing the size of the primary suite, and creating a functional layout in the basement.

When you first approach this home, you notice the stunning details on the exterior. This includes the thoughtful balance of brick and siding, landscaping, and porch expansion that helps tie in the new mudroom addition.

Inside, the team worked to create the open-concept that the clients enjoyed at their condo by removing the walls between the kitchen and dining room as well as between the kitchen and living room. We also updated the living room fireplace and added two bookshelves on either side that define the space. In the kitchen, we removed a door to the backyard and created a large working space at a 90 degree angle with an island in the center. With the door in the kitchen removed, we expanded the door in the dining room for easy access to the patio. Now all three spaces offer clear sight-lines and flow for easy indoor-outdoor entertaining. Down the hall, we adjusted the layout to create a powder bathroom, pantry, office, and larger primary suite. We also added a small addition to the front of the home that provides connection from the inside to the garage / golf simulator through a mudroom.

In the basement, we combined what was a bedroom and hallway with the family room to create one large family room. This space now offers the ultimate gathering spot and even has a water fountain nearby to help keep everyone hydrated. Down the hall, we started by moving the laundry room from a large and unfinished space into where the bathroom was. This gave us a more proportional laundry room that still offers plenty of space and even has a cabinet tucked under the stairs to maximize storage. Then we used a portion of what was part of the unfinished laundry room to create a jack-and-jill bathroom with access from the hallway and family room as well as the new bedroom. In the first bedroom, what was the unfinished laundry room, we created a closet in an existing alcove and finished the space. Across the hall, in the second bedroom, we relocated the closet to a portion of the storage room which increased the size of the bedroom. The remaining space includes a large storage and mechanical room with shelving to keep things organized.

After an extensive interior and exterior remodel, this home now offers the updated spaces that the client wanted as well as a thoughtful layout that maximizes each room.
