The finish carpenter is hard at work installing new interior doors and poplar baseboard and casing throughout the house. Cabinetry and paint are next on the list. Jon & Marisa have not been living in their house during the renovation, but are only a few blocks away in a rental house. A week ago on Sunday evening they were shocked to learn that the dumpster at their home was on fire! When they arrived at the scene there were already firefighters working to put out the flames that were higher than their roof. Fortunately the damage was fairly contained. The dumpster and one window were a total loss, but the port-a-potty can be repaired. The speculation is that the sawdust that the finish carpenters threw in the dumpster the day before self-combusted and started the blaze. They will pay to repair all the damage.
We spent time discussing the various options for the front porch. The original plan was to remove a side section of the porch that is not under the roof, but upon further inspection that would be a fairly extensive project. So, Jon & Marisa have decided to leave the existing structure and cover it in bluestone. This will change the height of the porch and require new steps which they will also cover in bluestone. They’ve also decided to go ahead and have the contractor replace the front walk while they’re at it since it is spalling.
