Windsor Street Four Square
This Windsor Street Four Square renovation included the primary suite, bathroom, mudroom, and home exterior.
Location: Salt Lake City, Utah
Originally Built in: 1901
Marcus & Kris have a growing family. With the addition of a new member to their home, they needed an additional room in their 1920’s bungalow. They wanted to add windows, high ceilings, and character to their home. Openness was important as well as drafty and sunny bedrooms.
THE STORY
They gave up their small primary bedroom and built a primary suite on the back of the home that flows and connects into the backyard. The remodel includes a primary bedroom, primary bathroom, and a mudroom.
SOLUTION
The primary bedroom is connected to the backyard through glass double doors, transom windows, and sidelights. The room is filled through glass on the east which minimizes heat-gain in the summer. The doors open up to a patio that steps down to the rear yard.
The primary bath includes a tub inset within the cove which mimics the original style of the home, while creating a comfortable space to bathe in. The detailed shower includes glass block detail, which adds interest and light to the shower and a double sink vanity which keeps the bathroom simple yet classic.
To save space, the primary closet is compact, built-in and functional. The beautiful rear addition entry doubles as a mudroom.
